Gender on Film - Matrubhoomi: A nation without women
The
film, set in India, shows the results of a nationwide preference for
sons, the resulting trend of sex-selective abortions and India's
subsequent gender imbalance.
WOW, WGSGO, LSU's WGS department, and the LSU Women's Center present the Gender on Film movie and discussion series.

In recognition
of October as Domestic Violence Awareness month, there will be a
clothesline display in front of the Women's Center the week of October 8th-14th. Each shirt represents a victim of sexual or domestic violence.
Gender on Film Series
Women Organizing Women, in conjunctiuon with the LSU Women's Center and the department of Women and Gender Studies at LSU, hosted the "Gender on Film" series. The film series allowed students to view and critically deconstruct popular images of femininity and masculinity across different genres of film. The films included: Thelma and Louise, Blood Moon, The Education of Shelby Knox, Fight Club, Beauty Academy of Kabul, Abstinence Comes to Albuquerque, Step by Step: Building a Feminist Movement, North Country, Dreamworlds II, and Fish and Elephant .
Take Back the Night March
On October 15, 2006, the Baton Rouge comminity joined together in the annual Take Back the Night March. Comminuty members had the oppurtunity to take a stand against domestic and sexual violence by taking to the streets and protesting to stop violence against women. WOW members helped out with the festivities, which included live music, poetry reading, and testaments from survivors of domestic violence.
The Clothesline Project
In order to raise awareness about domestic andsexual violence on campus, WOW sponsored a Clothesline Project event where we encouraged students to make t-shirts to protest violence against women.
The Safe House for Battered Women and Thier Children
In an effort to give back to the greater Baton Rouge community, WOW members volunteered at the Safe House for Battered Women and Children. WOW sponsored a campus-wide donation drive for the shelter, and also spent time a the shelter, organizing and sorting the donated items.
